    Woody,
I am so, so bummed… I just saw the email about your show this Friday night in Brooklyn and yet will be traveling for my first vacation in years. I am still touched by the way you wove Great Dreams in Heaven into your performance of Another Lisboa at Good Coffeehouse a couple of years ago, after we discussed the song from your lessons at Fur Peace Ranch. I am very sorry to miss you on Friday, but am spreading the word.
    Kind regards, and very best,
    Steve Farrelly

    Woody,
I completely enjoyed your workshop in Huntington yesterday. (I was the one who asked you about pedal steel instruction.) Your method of teaching is perfect for me. It opens up avenues for thinking about learning the neck more completely, counterpoint, voice leadings, and improving style and technique. I wish I did this 20 years ago. You make the learning process a joy. Thanks again!

Hi Dave, Glad you are enjoying the Blind Blake material. Yes,”Black Dog” is a tricky one, best played slow – good luck with it. The guitar is a Gibson J-185. A beaut.

  • Dave Wright:

    Hi Woody,

I’m enjoying the challenges of your Blind Blake tuitional DVD. Of the first two tunes I’m working on I find ‘That’ll Never Happen No More’ fairly straightforward, but there are some tricky bits in ‘Black Dog Blues’ that are taking some learning. Maybe it’s just me. Anyway, it’s a terrific DVD, so thank you.

The Gibson you use on the DVD has a superb sound. Would you tell me what model it is, please?

Hello Woody, I have been enjoying your excellent instructional videos on YouTube. I especially appreciate how you explain clearly what you are doing, and talk about why you are playing a riff a certain way. I am primarily a bass player but have enjoyed playing acoustic 6- and 12-string for many years. I particularly enjoyed your “Black Dog Blues” video, and appreciated the detail on the bass part. I am looking forward to your February workshop in Huntington along with my buddy Rick Brindell; we have played many open mike duets. See you in Huntington.

    Regards,

    Kevin Holmgren

  • Rick Brindell:

Hi Woody, Thanks for the advice via breakdownway about my question a few days ago on the Mean Old World lesson about orchestrating the bass runs. That was very helpful and I am working on mastering that. See you in a couple of weeks at the workshop in Huntington. By the way, John Hurlbut of Fur Peace Ranch sends his regards.

Hi Joe, Have not played Denver in quite a while, but there’s a chance this summer or next winter. Good luck with the music! Woody

  • Do you ever get out to Denver? I live in Wyoming but would come down to Denver for a show or workshop. Still trying to unlike the mystery of Gary Davis’es right thumb.
