The Music of Blind Blake & Big Bill Broonzy
February 4th, 2018
New York, NY
In this workshop I will be teaching the repertoire and playing styles of two of the greatest masters of ragtime blues guitar playing. I’ll break down the complexities and illustrate Blake and Big Bill’s spontaneous improvised approach. In addition to learning many of their sophisticated arrangements, the focus will be on understanding what you are playing and practical ways to improvise within a tune. Some of the techniques covered will be syncopated picking and getting the texture and groove of the music, using partial chords, damping, dynamics, and how to learn directly off the original recording. I’ll be presenting new tunes from previous workshops. This is a session for guitarists who are comfortable with picking basics and would like to get deeper into the playing of these two incredible musicians. Space is limited. Feel free to email me with questions. – Woody

Woody Mann is a man who knows his business of blues guitar thoroughly. Blind Blake is easily the toughest/most skillful blues player ever seen, so you really need some good instruction to get inside to the secrets of Mr. Blake. Woody Mann is very good teacher. In fact, I’m actually trying to avoid other teachers and buying only his videos and other teaching material, because he is so good at it. – M. Jaatinen/Amazon Customer Review
