This special weekend seminars will focus on practical approaches for developing fingerstyle technique and repertoire, and designed for students who can play the basics but would like to take their music to the next level. The seminar take place in the beautiful historic town of Brattleboro, Vermont.
Woody will be teaching a wide range of repertoire through the styles of Lonnie Johnson, Eddie Lang, Reverend Gary Davis, Robert Johnson and Blind Blake in addition to contemporary fingerstyle arrangements and original compositions. He will break down the complexities and offer a “toolbox” for developing simple chord melody ideas, syncopated picking and understanding the logic of the fret board. This seminar focuses on understanding what you are playing and developing practical approaches for creating variations within a tune. Some of the ideas covered are ways to “play off” the chords, basic practical exercises for understanding the fingerboard, playing with dynamics, organizing your practicing and ways to develop your own sound.
This is a hands on practical workshop for people who want to take their music to the next level and learn some great tunes in the process. There will also be emphasis on performing and techniques on playing with others. The seminar begins Friday afternoon and ends Sunday at 5pm. In addition to the scheduled morning and early afternoon sessions, there will be time for informal jams and individual instruction. Saturday evening will be the informal student concert. Enrollment is limited. Please get in touch by email if you have any questions. Looking forward to meeting everyone. – Woody
